Origin: Egypt
Type: Serpent
The Ouroboros is a serpent curled in a circular shape, appearing as if it’s devouring its own tail. It symbolizes the cycle of death and rebirth, eternity and renewal.
First appearing in Egypt, it’s image was of the circular journey of the sun. Plato described a self eating circular being as the first living thing-an image of self-sufficiency and perfection. An alchemy text from Egypt shows a tail-eating serpent surrounding the words ‘All In One’.
In Norse cosmology the Ouroboros is linked to Jormungandr, the world-circling serpent.
